Lettie & Lewis | Yorkshire Countryside Wedding Photographer.
I’ve been a Yorkshire countryside wedding photographer for over 15 years now, but nothing could prepare me for how stunning the location was going to be for Lettie & Lewis’s wedding. I met up with these two for their wedding in Hutton-le-Hole, a chocolate box village in the North Yorkshire countryside. Whilst Ryedale Folk Museum offers intimate wedding ceremonies and elopements in Hutton-le-Hole, Lettie and Lewis chose to have a wonderfully homely, DIY wedding that centred around their family homes, and the church that overlooks them both.
Intimate Editorial Wedding Photography in North Yorkshire
Lettie got ready at her family home in the heart of Hutton-le-Hole. The beauty of an intimate wedding is that things are naturally calmer. This means I can more fully immerse myself into a couple’s and their family’s world. Capturing weddings with honesty in a documentary style is my goal, but I love to make things elegant too. A gentle prompt from me to go stand in the window to fix a veil creates a a beautiful image you’ll treasure forever but its surrounded by handwritten wedding cards from family, friends and neighbours. These little details are so important to capture. They elevate ‘editorial wedding photography’ by giving it rich meaningful context. It’s no longer a fashion shoot, but a beautiful retelling of your day with everything that makes it special.
A Yorkshire Countryside Wedding Full of Animals
The real stars of the day were of course the animals. I lost count of how many dogs were present, but it rivalled the number of humans, nearly 1:1! Lettie and Lewis’s dog, Oaty laid quietly in the aisle of the simple stone Yorkshire St Chad’s Church in Hutton-le-Hole whilst his humans tied the knot. After exchanging vows and signing the register, Archie, Lettie’s handsome horse met the newlyweds outside the church and utterly stole the show. He looked so regal, and was such a gentleman. We of course had to involved him in as many photos as possible for some of my absolute favourite wedding photos I’ve ever taken! Finally, Lettie and Lewis’s rescue, Buddy, joined them to complete the family outing. Plenty of other dogs came and went throughout the day and I could have spent hours capturing them all.
Relaxed Countryside Wedding Portraits
There’s nothing quite like the Yorkshire countryside for effortlessly romantic wedding portraits. Lettie and Lewis simply went for a walk up the village back lane. I got them to stand in the flattering late-afternoon sun and allowed the couple to be themselves and relax into the shoot. The setting and scenery are simply stunning, and I was keen to make the photos feel like home, not just a backdrop. The village is where they live so it seemed only right to incorporate as much of it as possible into their wedding photos.
As their afternoon of casual celebrations turned towards dinner time, I left them to it. They had turned a room into a wonderful setting for a wedding breakfast and invited a private chef to cook them a beautiful celebratory meal. I loved the relaxed, family-orientated vibe of Lettie and Lewis’s wedding. They absolutely set the benchmark for an intimate Yorkshire countryside wedding.
