When Hannah and Kirsty told us they were both in the creative industries we knew they were our kind of people!
Hannah is a photographer herself and was keen for parts of the day to be photographed on film which we more than happy to oblige. Hannah and Kirsty opted for both 35mm and medium format for their wedding photos in a mixture of black and white and colour which we shot in our Canon EOS 1v and Rolleiflex (and for the film and camera geeks we used Portra 800 and Delta 3200 for the winter wedding light).
The pair got ready together (in record time!) along with their cat who got in on the photos at their flat in Leeds. We enjoyed some portraits in the last hints of winter sun both at home and in the city before heading for their wedding at the Brodrick suite in Leeds Town Hall. Their ceremony was small and intimate with close family and friends who joined together for a few group photos in front of Leeds Art Gallery afterwards.
As the night drew in we stole a few minute for some photos on the canal before jumping on the Yorkshire Hire Cruisers canal party boat for a fun 90 minute trip down the river to the PapaKata tipi they had set up at Thwaite Mills just outside of Leeds city centre. The scent of mulled wine in the air led us through the pitch black to the glow of the tipi where cocktails were served by Speakeasy Libations to keep the festive mood alive whilst guests toasted marshmallows on the open fire.
We love the mix of film photos amongst the digital photos throughout their wedding. It's also our second same sex wedding in Leeds where we've had the refreshing joy of having the couple get ready together, something that seems quite special to same sex weddings that always adds a new air of excitement especially as they inevitably end up dressing each other as Hannah and Kirsty did! The Rolleiflex medium format photos have a gorgeous depth and clarity to them too, and we can't wait to make some hand prints of these in the darkroom.
