Engagement shoots, pre-wedding shoots, e-shoots, love shoots... so many catchphrases for the same thing. If you're the type of couple who don't like having your photo taken, then an engagement shoot is ideal for you. Sounds counter-intuitive but let's break it down for a minute.
Perhaps you're awkward, don't know where to put your hands, think you have a weird smile, hate any photo that's not an exact 45 degree angle from the front. These are all things that people have hang ups about and wouldn't it be great to not have these hang ups on your wedding day?
An engagement shoot lets you have a 'practice' in front of the camera to get relaxed, shake out the nerves and learn to love yourself a bit more. Our engagement shoots are usually around 45 minutes of fun, nothing too posed or cheesy, just some nice scenery and good light with you in the picture. Everyone starts out their engagement shoot either a bit stiff or full of awkward laughter. But given a few minutes, all our couples get into the rhythm of it and thats when we start to figure out what works for you. Maybe you need a lot of direction, maybe you need none at all. Most couples are somewhere in between and we want to find that sweet spot to get the best out of you.
On your wedding day, without an engagement shoot we find couples take a bit longer to shake out those nerves. Whereas those who've had an engagement shoot can jump straight into it and get more out of their wedding day portrait session. It's by no means a requirement to do one, but there is a discernible difference between those who do and those who don't.
So if you're the super awkward type or are one of those people who can say 'we never have any nice photos of us together,' well, an engagement shoot is the way to fix both those things!
In preparation for your shoot, we'll arrange a date and time and depending on whether you want something urban or rural, decide on a suitable location. Your shoot is approximately 45 minutes, plenty of time to loosen you up in front of the camera and to create a collection of images you're going to love. We'll go for a walk, stopping along the way. Maybe we'll have a plan, maybe we'll just follow our noses. We'll just be on the lookout for spots that work!
When we're done, within two weeks you'll have all your edited images ready to view and they'll be supplied alongside your wedding photos so you'll be able to keep them forever too.
