I’ve got a beautifully sunny, colourful wedding to share today. Alice and Duncan are so full of fun and joy. It was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with them and their loved ones at Holdsworth House in West Yorkshire.
Wedding photography at Holdsworth House
Set amidst secluded, tranquil gardens Holdsworth House is a historical country house dating back to 1633, with links to Anne Lister and the Bronte family. It’s even got ties to The Beatles - they stayed there in the 60s- back when it was a private members club known as The Cavalier Country Club.
Since the 1980s the building has been a luxury hotel and wedding venue with a cosy, “home from home” feel. I felt like I was at a house party! Exactly the vibe Alice and Duncan wanted for their day.
Wedding ceremony at Holdsworth House
All of the celebrations took place at Holdsworth House, from morning preparations right through to the party. I love weddings like this, there’s no travelling between venues for you and your guests - more time to enjoy drinks together - and there’s little to no stress about traffic, wedding transport, timings etc. As a wedding photographer it’s so important to me that couples and their wedding guests have plenty of opportunities to enjoy their day to the full and having a single venue for ceremony, reception and party is one of the best ways to do that.
As soon as I arrived with Duncan and his groomsmen that morning I knew I was in for a great day. They popped open the champagne, ventured out into the sunshine and began to welcome guests with gigantic hugs and a lot of laughter.
Holdsworth House is licenced for weddings in any room in the house, as well as being able to hold weddings out in the courtyard or gardens. Alice and Duncan had chosen to say their vows in the gardens, holding hands underneath an arch of trees. The ceremony was the perfect mix of tears and laughter. I’m a real sucker for emotion! I absolutely love that Alice’s Dads walked her down the aisle, what a moment!
There was such a feeling of love and family to Alice and Duncan’s day. Everyone loved sitting out in the gardens, chatting away and enjoying the gorgeous weather. As the sun began to set Alice, Duncan and I ventured off for some golden hour portraits. My favourite time of the day, the light is just glowing and the landscape (& people in it!) always look amazing. Both Alice and Duncan spent the whole time giggling away. They were just over the moon to be married and spending time with the people they love the most in the world.
Weddings at Holdsworth House
I have to say the wedding team at Holdsworth House were spot on, they looked after everyone so well and the whole day was just perfect. Everything Alice and Duncan had been imagining. I loved shooting there and am really looking forward to going back. If you’re planning your wedding there, or indeed in any of Yorkshire’s fab wedding venues, then I’d love to hear from you.
