One of our favourite Yorkshire wedding venues, Natural Retreats - it's a stunning place with the right balance of luxury and rustic countryside. Anna & Will invited us to shoot their humanist ceremony on top of the hill overlooking the rural splendour of North Yorkshire and we were only too thrilled to be a part of it!
We started the day with preparations in the subtly mid-century styled lodges before heading up the hill to a gloriously sunny but rather windy humanist outdoor ceremony. With all their friends and family gathered around on hay bales Anna & Will exchanged their vows under a flower arch. Anna, knowing we like to shoot a bit of old fashioned film brought along her great-grandfather's old 1930s Rolleiflex for us to see if we could get it back into action and maybe shoot a roll on it. James began giving it an inspection on the morning and after finding a half-shot roll of film in it (we estimated it was from the mind 1980s to early 1990s) we determined it was good to go and we could shoot a roll of film on it! We brought along our own 1959 Rolleiflex to shoot some film too.
After the ceremony, the guests strolled over to the barn whilst Anna & Will paused for a quick portrait session in that freshly-married glow! Speeches followed with a hearty mix of emotional words and cringe-worthy tales. And right on cue, the sun washed over the valley at Natural Retreats for a stunning golden hour which we couldn't resist taking advantage of. Then it was just a case of getting down to the beats of the Disco Shed and dancing into the night.
And what of the film in great-granddad's camera? Stay tuned and we'll share some of those awesome shots soon!
