Thirsk Wedding Photographer - Hannah and Robin
When a wedding features gin, dogs and some prize winning sheep you know you’re in for a treat. Throw in a couple that wholeheartedly embraced the chaos and fun that ensued and you’re in for an absolute belter!
Yorkshire micro weddings
Last year we, like the rest of the industry, were forced to sit back and take an impromptu hiatus from weddings. However, as with most things in life, there was a silver lining - as lockdowns began to ease the weddings that were able to go ahead took on an added intimacy and joy that was incredible to be a part of. With restricted numbers couples were only able to invite the people who were the closest to them and many opted to change their plans completely and go for more DIY, cosy back garden celebrations. Hannah and Robin’s small wedding at their family home in Thirsk was no exception.
Wedding photography in Thirsk
This was our first trip to the beautiful village of South Otterington in North Yorkshire and it’s a place we’d love to return to and explore. Surrounded by rolling hills it is so picturesque. One of the best parts of being a Yorkshire wedding photographer is that, as we travel around our home county, we get constant reminders of why we love it so much and count ourselves very lucky to live here!
We met up with Robin outside St Andrews Church, he was grinning away as he greeted their guests and shared a joke with the vicar as they stood inside waiting for Hannah. She was travelling in style, we couldn’t stop smiling behind our cameras as two pickup trucks, decked out with red ribbons, pulled up outside church and Hannah, her Dad and bridesmaids emerged. What an arrival!
While photographing a wedding ceremony one of our favourite things to do is watch out for those small, loving glances between couples, the touch of a hand or a reassuring smile. Hannah and Robin didn’t disappoint, they only had eyes for each other throughout their ceremony, we glimpsed a few hand squeezes and even a shoulder nudge from Robin to make Hannah smile!
Garden wedding reception
The formalities of the (very informal!) ceremony over it was time to jump in the back of the pickup and head back to celebrate at their family home. With wheelbarrows filled with drinks, dogs running free and a herd of prize winning sheep photobombing us this wedding party was right up our street. We didn’t stop laughing as we whisked Hannah and Robin away from some chilled out and natural portraits (no over the top posing here!) before gathering everyone together for some of the unstuffiest group photos we’ve ever had the pleasure of capturing. We always keep this point of the day very relaxed and laid back but this lot took it to another level! We snapped away as the group hoisted Robin onto their shoulders, the dogs bounded into shot as they giddily chased each other and Hannah’s bridesmaids lifted her into the air in celebration.
What a day! Words don’t do the joy, laughter and sheer fun of this wedding justice so here are some of our favourites.
