Stacey & Tom | Hutton Wandesley Stables Wedding Photographer.
I’m going to go out on a limb and say Hutton Wandesley Stables is a hidden gem of a wedding venue near York. Not only that, it’s in my top 5 wedding venues in Yorkshire. A bold claim I know, but hear me out as to why! There’s no venue quite like this in York. With its sprawling, and expertly manicured walled garden it’s an unbeatable wedding venue that you should be considering if you’re getting married in York. Add to that there’s plenty of on-site accommodation, a dedicated barn for your wedding reception, breakout spaces, and multiple options for indoor and outdoor ceremonies, it really is the venue that has it all. I’ve had the pleasure of being a Hutton Wandesley Stables wedding photographer a number of times now, and it’s always a privilege to photograph weddings here.

If you’re looking for similar venues, you’ve probably already come across The Fig House at Middleton Lodge – another stunning walled garden wedding venue. But maybe logistics mean you need or want to be closer to York rather than being an hour further north. Hutton Wandesey Stables is perfectly situated for easy reach from York, Leeds and anywhere in Yorkshire. Stacey and Tom are locals so it was the perfect venue for them. Stacey got ready in the dedicated bridal suite in the Laundry House along with her bridesmaids. Meanwhile, Tom and the boys got ready in the main house. The two came together in a very touching moment for their outdoor ceremony under the rose arch. Stacey walked down the aisle with her boys. Tom cried. I loved it! It was then confetti showers all the way down the paths as the guests welcomed the newlyweds.
“What if we’re awkward in front of the camera?”
Stacey and Tom are the epitome of ‘we’re awkward in front of the camera’ and I loved that about them! Not a serious bone in their bodies! I love a couple who can lean into their weirdness, laugh about things, and (without trying to sound like a dating profile cliche) not take themselves too seriously! I’m super big on couple’s being able to look back at their wedding photos and see themselves, not the things the photographer asked them to do that made them look like mannequins. Stacey and Tom were very much themselves and it absolutely shows in their photos. There’s no need for you to subscribe to instagram styles and trends when you’re just a couple of goofballs at heart. Make your photos relaxed, make them about you – your future selves will thank you for it.

The afternoon was spent with good food, and short but sweet speeches – nothing too serious, of course! Stacey and Tom put the emphasis in fun on their day. They might be the main characters in their crazy world, but they have a supporting case of equally hilarious and fun-loving guests. A mini-golf tournament turned serious at times; jenga got demolished by Stacey in what I’m going to say is one of my favourite ever photos; limbo rules were abused; drinks were spilled. Absolutely chaos but in all the best ways, and absolutely the type of wedding I love to photograph. Before the evening dancing kicked off, we enjoyed 10 minutes of evening portraits. The sun might not have given us a golden hour, but the happiness and joy in these two absolutely shone through.
