Alice & Louis | Jervaulx Abbey Wedding Photographer.
I’ve had the pleasure of being a Jervaulx Abbey wedding photographer multiple times over the years. It’s a venue that never ceases to tickle my creative tastebuds. Jervaulx Abbey is a stunning wedding venue set in the ruins of a 12th century Cistercian abbey. The abbey is surrounded by beautiful rolling hills peppered with sheep. It’s giving Yorkshire! When Alice and Louis asked me to be their Jervaulx Abbey wedding photographer, it was an easy yes from me. I love photographing here!
Jervaulx Abbey Wedding Photography in North Yorkshire
Alice got ready in nearby Malton, a beautiful little market town that you definitely shouldn’t skip over if you’re in the vicinity. Louis got ready in the shepherds huts on site at Jervaulx Abbey. These are lovely little cabins that are ideal for cosy preparations, avoiding any logistical hassle. And what could be better than waking up in the quiet of the countryside on your wedding day – oh, having a private hot tub too! The Cloisters was the setting for Alice and Louis’s stunning outdoor ceremony, with the ruins as their backdrop. I honestly can’t take a bad photo at Jervaulx Abbey. Every angle is full of historic ruins, backed by stunning scenery.
Candid Moments During the Outdoor Drinks Reception
I love to capture wedding days naturally, not forcing people to do things for the camera. If you and your guests are having fun, then I’m doing what I do best: capturing candid, documentary style wedding photography of your day. The drinks reception is the perfect time for me to capture your guests enjoying themselves. Alice and Louis’s wedding party decided they were going to toss Louis (definitely not my idea, but I was 100% up for capturing it!). The photos are hilarious! At one point, they threw Louis so high that he disappeared out the top of the frame! Alice’s bridesmaids opted for a much more demure approach, including the newlywed’s stunning dogs for their wedding photos. They look so cute surrounded by the bridesmaids bouquets.
The candid photos carried on into the evening when the beer pong started. I love when guests get competitive, it’s great for photos. Beer pong wasn’t the only spot to photograph friendly rivalry. The giant jenga and the limbo were equally competitive and I absolutely love the photos of the guests enjoying themselves. These are the moments that couple’s don’t realise are happening until they get their full set of photos back. If you’re searching for truly candid, fun wedding photography that captures your relaxed wedding day at Jervaulx Abbey, I might just be the wedding photographer for you.
Natural Light Portraits at Jervaulx Abbey
The light is something else at Jervaulx Abbey. It slices through the ruins, creating beautiful contrast and pockets of beautiful light that’s perfect for natural light wedding portraits. There’s no need for overcomplicated photography here. Just natural, honest wedding portraits in a stunning historic wedding venue. All of Alice and Louis’s wedding portraits were taken in a total of 20 minutes where they wandered through the ruins, stopping for the best views and the best light before returning to the party before anyone even noticed they were gone. It’s so important to me that you get to enjoy the day and not spend ages away from the party taking portraits. And as you can see, you can have both!
